
Periodic Test Certificate (Form WR2)
What is WR2?
The Periodic Test Certificate (WR2) is a document issued under the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, in accordance with the Electrical (Registration) Regulations. It serves as proof that electrical installations have undergone periodic inspection and testing as required by law. This is an important measure to ensure the safe operation of electrical installations.
When is WR2 required?

Fixed Electrical Installations (Including residential, commercial, and industrial buildings)
- Must be inspected every 5 years.
- The inspection covers distribution boxes, wiring, and other fixed installations.

Periodic Test Certificate (WR2) Specific Premises (e.g., petrol stations, karaoke venues)
Locations used for the manufacture or storage of dangerous goods (e.g., hazardous goods warehouses, storage tanks, petrol stations) and entertainment premises (e.g., karaoke venues) must undergo inspection every year.
WR2 Inspection Process
Hire a Registered Electrical Worker (REW) or Registered Electrical Contractor (REC):
A qualified professional is required to carry out the inspection.The Engineer Will Conduct the Following Tests:
- Insulation Resistance Test: Ensures that the insulation of electrical wiring meets safety standards.
- Earth Resistance Test: Verifies the effectiveness of the earthing system.
- Safety Inspection of Circuits and Equipment: Ensures all circuits and equipment comply with safety requirements.
Issuance of WR2:
Once the tests are completed and meet the required standards, the WR2 certificate will be issued.
