Introduction to the Minor Works Control System
The Minor Works Control System, fully implemented by the Hong Kong Buildings Department in 2010, aims to streamline the regulatory process for minor works, enhancing safety and efficiency. Minor works are categorized into three classes based on their nature, scale, complexity, and safety risks:
- Class I: High complexity and safety risk
- Class II: Moderate complexity and safety risk
- Class III: Low complexity and safety risk
There are 58, 68, and 61 types of works under Classes I, II, and III, respectively.
Class I Minor Works
Class I minor works involve high complexity and safety risks, comprising a total of 58 types of projects. These works must be prepared and certified by prescribed building professionals and registered contractors. Necessary documents must be submitted at least 7 days before commencing the works, and completion documents must be filed within 14 days after the works are finished.
Class II Minor Works
Class II minor works involve moderate complexity and safety risks, covering a total of 68 types of projects. These works must be prepared and certified by prescribed registered contractors. Similar to Class I, documents must be submitted at least 7 days prior to starting the works, and completion documents must be filed within 14 days after the works are completed.
